Power Line Inspection
RPAs (or Remotely Piloted Aircraft) are becoming increasingly easier to fly, have tons of cool tech onboard to keep the RPA safe, and capture some amazing photos and video - giving us, the viewers, a unique perspective on the world around us.
RPAs are finding a home in the manned aircraft arena as well. They are taking over some of the more difficult and dangerous flying traditionally done by manned aircraft. One such example is power line inspections.
I remember flying low and slow in a Cessna 172 looking for breaks in the line. With RPAs, you not only have a much more safe platform to do the inspection from, you also have the benefit of video to use for empirical data and the video can be sent back to a ground station to a large big screen monitor to make it easier to identify those breaks.
Tracking a Drone in Flight With...Another Drone!
Doing some precision target tracking practice. Sebastian was filming the bridge with his Mavic Mini 2 while I filmed him flying and filming with my Mavic Mini 2.
Low Level Tracking Over Water
Doing some more dynamic target tracking with the Mavic Mini 2. The subject (another Mavic Mini 2) flew towards me and under while I tracked it using the gimbal while my Mavic Air 2 hovered over top.
Bird Flyby
Took the Mavic Mini 2 out to do some low and fast flying over the train tracks. As I was setting up this kit of pigeons flew across my field of view.
Dog Day Trip at Dusk
I have been meaning to capture a video of me and the dogs biking around for most of this year and it finally materialized. Sebastian tagged along and did all the flying with his Mavic Pro 2. Some great continuous shots in this flick.
Golf Course Club House Top Down
I was asked to take some footage of a golf course club house by a good friend of mine as “B Roll” footage for a wedding video he was shooting. Nothing fancy here although the lighting and some dynamic movement gives a very “surreal” feel to the video. Filmed using Mavic Mini 2.
